What happens now?

The recent firing of designer John Galliano from luxury fashion house Dior has all the fashion (and not so fashion) world talking. After this incident, head honchos at the company confirms that they "don't tolerate such actions and that zero tolerance in making such comments is observed". (Source) Though Galliano already issued an apology, "damage has been done" as people would say.

I consider Galliano as one of my personal heroes in fashion. As a matter of fact, he inspired me to pursue fashion and consider it as a career. I just love his creativity, his vision, the way he comes up with his designs. The way he combines various influences and managed to create fashionable clothes is something a designer of his caliber could only do. As a "tribute", I look back at some of my favorite things he did during his stint at Dior.

Nicole Kidman at the 1997 Oscars wearing the "Chinoiserie dress" Galliano did as part of his earlier collections for Dior.

A few of his work for his own line for Spring/Summer 2003 inspired by Indian sensibilities and Hindu iconography. (A personal favorite)

His Spring/Summer Couture Collection in 2004 (again for Dior) which was inspired by his travels in Egypt, and yeah another favorite from his.

A look from Dior Fall/Winter 2004, a collection described by Andre Leon Talley as something "Marie Antoinette would have schemed for".

His "newsprint print".

I personally think that Dior won't be the same without Galliano. He put fun and whim at the once dusty brand and it may take me sometime before getting used to " ______ for Christian Dior" (that's just me). I only hope that it won't be too long before Galliano redeem his self and be back at the fashion.
