I was in high school when I first saw an ad for The Lion King Musical. Just a tiny photo from an advertisement of NYC (think of the billboards at Times Square). Of course I got interested as The Lion King is one of my favorite movies growing up. The musical, directed by the visionary Julie Taymor, reaped awards at the 1998 Tony Awards and became one of the longest-running musicals in theater history. A combination of puppetry, colorful costumes and sets (as seen in the clip below) makes The Lion King a theater experience one should not miss.
This month, the much-lauded musical will hit Asian shores when it premieres at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Now, if only I could go.....:(
